In October 2007, the Alif family received two Sunshine Kids Radian80s from the foundation. Many thanks to Kristen Sparks, CPS Tech, for her time and expertise educating the family on the installation and usage of this seat.
Ms. Sparks talks about the experience:
"I was able to successfully install the Radian80s in this family’s vehicle. The seats were a wonderful fit for the girls. Unfortunately I forgot my camera. They were sitting in old no-back boosters and looked so much more comfortable in the Radians. I had a new Car Seat Technician help me install the seats, which was great because he had never seen them before."
Mrs. Alif talks about the experience:
"I am a member of a local online group of mothers. One of the members is a car seat tech. She has been a wealth of education for the mothers on the group helping us make much safer choices about children in automobiles. There was a discussion about some videos on YoTtube about car seat safety and the link to the Kyle David Miller video was one of them. That's how I learned about your organization.
I already knew that we couldn't afford to upgrade our seats. I also learned that my 98 Dodge Caravan has known issues with the seat belts becoming unlatched when something else comes in contact with the raised button. I definitely wanted to get them in a five point if possible after learning about this.
I went to your site and learned that I was eligible to get one, so I applied, not really thinking that we'd get one seat, let alone two. I was shocked and excited that I was contacted so soon and told that my application was a success and the seats were waiting for me at a local fire station. After some time (delay with the person at the fire station) we were able to pick up the seats. I was told by the lady that she has had some problems with installing Radians in some vehicles, but mine went in with no problem.
My girls who are 6 and 7 love their new seats. They do have some difficulty sometimes with the bottom buckle which is a pain sometimes because they don't try hard enough, but that's an inconvenience I'd rather deal with if it means that the girls are safer."
