Theresa Bohm contacted the foundation recently to thank us for giving her the information necessary to properly secure her children - this led to them surviving a serious crash.
I just had to share my story with you. My name is Theresa and I have 3 kids - Anthony (4 and 1/2) and Carter and Kaylee (both 2 and 1/2). When I first saw Kyle's YouTube video back in Nov. 2006, I was in tears...Anthony was just about 3 and 1/2 and was in a booster seat b/c he was 42 pds. The twins were in regular convertibles (up to 40 lbs). I remember my husband coming home from work and I played the video for him...he was speechless and we began asking ourselves what we would do if anything ever happened to Anthony. We made the decision that night to purchase the Britax Regent. The following year, we bought it for Carter, then almost 2 and pretty big for his age - and bought the Britax Marathon for Kaylee. We felt safe knowing the kids were secured properly.
This February we moved from Kansas City to Detroit. On our fourth day here, we were driving home from the store at 9:45 in the morning when a car turned left, on a red, directly in front of us. We didn't roll over, but the whole front end was smashed in, airbags went off, and fluid of all colors were leaking from my van. had no time to brake or even see him come barrelling into the intersection, as I was going 45. All of us were fine - I was the most banged up, thank God, and the kids all had some minor bruising on their shoulders from their seatbelts.
I hate to think of what would have happened if they were not restrained in the seats they were in. I thank God everyday for their safety during this accident - I never thought I'd actually ever be in one, let alone with all my kids. In looking at my totaled van at the scene, the police and fire dpt. said a couple different times how lucky we were to have walked away without any major injuries. Since the accident, we have replaced all the kids seats with identical new ones.
I can only imagine what the pain of losing a child is like, but please know that you have helped SO many others by putting your experience - as painful as it has been - out there. It is because of you that we purchased the seats our kids were in .and I want to thank you for your courage and wonderful service to others! You will never know how grateful I am to you.
