The Fiscus family of six children are all now safer due to the Kyle David Miller Foundation. The foundation donated two Radian80s to them, all the other car seats in the vehicle were checked for correct installation, and their 2 and a half year old who is 24lbs was turned rear-facing once again. This is the safest way for a child to travel until they reach the rear-facing limits of their convertible car seat (30-35lbs). Here is what the family and the CPS technician had to say about their experience:
“I just wanted to thank you for helping us with our two seats. My son and daughter are now riding very safe. Although, it was quite fun trying to get them in with all the other carseats. I had to have them installed when my kids were in school. Tim taught me how to correctly use the new seats and taught me how to install them all correctly. It was very helpful. He even double checked my carseats that were already in the van. Although it was a tight fit, we made it work.
[My daughter] and [son] both love their carseats which is a huge plus for a mom because I haven't had to fight them to get in them.
I really can not say thank you enough on helping me keep my children safe. Tim said that these were some of the nicest and easiest seats he has installed.
I do not know what I would do if anything happened to my children. It is every parents' worst nightmare. Thank you for everything. I have been passing the word around about keeping your child in a five point harness for as long as possible and also keeping your child rear facing for as long as possible. My 2 1/2 year old is now rear facing again.
Thank you and God Bless
Cherish!”
Tim Tichy - CPS Technician - talks about his experience:
“The appointment went well yesterday. It was great and we would be willing to work with you more in the future.
Mrs. Fiscus' children weren’t available because they were in school. We were able to get the seats in so that all the children were riding safely and none of them in the front seat.
We have a quarterly newsletter that is sent out to all the area pediatricians, schools, some parents, day cares and services agencies that we would like to do a story what took place.”
