We would like to note that the Channel 2 News story incorrectly states that there are only two seats available on the market which harness beyond 40lbs. What they should have stated is that there are only two seats on the market currently which harness to 80lbs. Please see our page entitled 'Our Recommended Car Seats' for details of seats which harness beyond 40lbs.

The 7th annual Londonderry Family Safety Day (formerly the Londonderry Child Safety Day) was held this past Saturday September 22nd at The Moose Hill School on Pillsbury Road and what a great success it was.
The weather was perfect for parents and children alike from Londonderry and the surrounding communities to learn about family safety from a variety of exhibitors.
The Londonderry Child Passenger Safety Program provided car seat inspections from noon to 3. In this time, 10 certified technicians from NH and Mass inspected approximately 60 children’s car seats to check for proper installation. Of these approximately 60 seats, none were properly installed and 6 were taken out of service for various reasons while 7 seats were donated to make sure the children left the event safe. Our thanks go out to all of the technicians, some who traveled almost 2 hours to help out, the NH Child Passenger Safety Program and to State Farm Insurance.

The NH Freemasons provided their annual CHiP (Child ID Program). This program provides parents with a kit that contains a 5 minute video, DNA sample, tooth impression and finger print, in case a child becomes lost or abducted. Throughout the day, the Freemasons provided free kits for 132 children.
Other events included the Wal-Mart Watch for Blindspots Program where approximately 75 parents learned about driving safely around tractor trailers.
The new Salem Fire Rescue Smoke House trailer was a big hit as always. With this new trailer, Fire Inspector Brian Johnson, with the help of a member of the Salem Fire Rescue and Call Fire Fighter Chris Santamaria provided parents and children with a variety of safety ideas to be used at home or in work. One exhibit was when the public could see inside the trailer while an actual fire was set and watched as a sprinkler extinguished the fire.
The Lancers friends of Music provide volunteers to cook hamburgers and hot dogs for the volunteers and participants, earning over $ 500.00 toward the trip to China next year, what a great job they did. The parents of Moose Hill PTA donated baked goods for the bake sale that the Friends of Music held and this earned both the Moose Hill PTA and The Friends of Music another $ 225.00 each.
Many thanks to the other sponsors and exhibitors who attended the event. The Elliot Medical Center of Londonderry donated the cost of the bounce house, while the volunteers from the Nutfield Mom’s Club Project P.L.A.Y staffed it with volunteers to watch the children and accept donations for their playground project. Parkland Hospital for all of their medical screenings, where there was always a line. The members of Londonderry Fire rescue and Londonderry Police Department for providing much needed safety information for all. Laura Bower from the Kyle David Miller Foundation was there providing information on why children should be restrained in car seat with higher weight 5 point harnesses. A great big thank you to the Amer
ican red Cross Disaster Services and Emergency preparedness divisions for providing information on emergency preparedness in the home and work place, and for donating several cases of water when the supplies ran low. Also, a great big thank you to the Armed Forces reserve Center for the personnel and vehicles. That was one of the biggest fire trucks I have ever seen. You guys and galls are an asset to the community.
A Richmond County couple received a special child safety seat through the Kyle David Miller Foundation, which was installed last week at the Rockingham Fire Department.
Capt. Vic McCaskill and Wesley Lee, firefighter, are the technicians who installed it for the family.
The special seat was obtained through the foundation and costs several times more than the ordinary seat. The foundation assists families in obtaining the seats.
Kyle was a young boy killed when his seat belt failed when his family’s vehicle was struck. The foundation in his honor promotes driver safety and car seat safety awareness.
Children with special needs can require larger capacity harnessing seats.
Since an appearance on the television show Good Morning America, the foundation has been overwhelmed with requests for assistance.
The foundation partners with North Shore Auto Group to host car seat safety weekend, donating car seats and checking installations.
Four families that had applied to the foundation were assisted on this day, totaling 6 children in new car seats.
